We are happy to announce that Mary Stazinski has joined CCIH as a Trauma Fellow!
With Mary’s arrival, we have additional capacity for new clients seeking trauma informed treatment, including sliding scale appointments. Call our intake line at 773-754-7441 ext 2000 or request a call from us here.
Below is a brief interview with Mary.
Why CCIH?
I really value CCIH’s approach to trauma work and the emphasis placed on treating the person, rather than their trauma. I’m particularly drawn to the focus on present-centered work and supporting clients in building fuller and more meaningful lives in the present. I also admire CCIH’s commitment to sharing knowledge and supporting other clinicians, not only to provide the best possible care for our clients, but also to make a broader, positive impact on our community and city.
What initially got you interested in therapy?
I always had a sense that I wanted to pursue something where I felt I could make a positive difference. I found that a difference can be made on so many different levels and in so many different ways, whether that be on an individual or community level or in more broader contexts such as organizational or policy work. I studied psychology in undergrad and though I initially chose that with the intention of entering a different field, I found myself drawn to the parts that involved human experience and human connection. I was especially drawn to the opportunity to work directly with people and to support them in making sense of their experiences, better understanding themselves, and ultimately living more satisfying lives.
What do you look forward to learning about at CCIH?
I look forward to learning more about the science behind trauma, how it can show up in our lives, and the different approaches to treatment. Psychoeducation can be such an impactful part of treatment and I’m excited about building confidence in my ability to offer insight about the science behind people’s experiences. I’m also interested in learning more about parts work and its potential impact on how we understand and work with different aspects of our experiences.
What do you like to do when you are not in session?
Outside of session, you can often find me spending time with my cats Lizzy and Anakin, at a thrift store, or reading a book. I like to stay active through playing different sports and always love to have a craft in progress whether that’s crochet, embroidery, or a cozy coloring book.
