In recent years, there has been an explosion of research on the effects of traumatic events on the brain and body. This research has given us insight into how human beings have developed in relation to one another and to our environment. What we have learned has implications for all clinical practice not just for those who specifically identify as having a traumatic history. This knowledge enables us to help clients reduce painful symptoms and experience richer, more peaceful lives in the present moment. In this workshop we will explore how this new information has identified what is essential for effective treatment.

Our workshop will include:

- A brief history of trauma
- A review of essential neurobiological concepts
-An exploration of how these concepts inform therapy and can be integrated into clinical practice regardless of theoretical orientation
- An introduction to body-centered therapies
- Discussion
