1.5 CEUs  are offered for LCPCs, LCSWs, LMFTs, and Clinical Psychologists.

Many of our clients have questions about how medication can fit into their mental health treatment,  but as therapists, we can sometimes feel daunted about our role in referring clients for medications and in supporting medication use.

Kyle McKinley is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who currently provides both trauma-informed psychotherapy and medication management at CCIH. In this workshop, he’ll draw on his years of experience to discuss the ways in which medication can be used to complement psychotherapy for an integrated treatment approach.

We’ll explore how therapists can evaluate whether medication might be a good fit for a client, and how we can support clients in making informed decisions about medication. We’ll discuss the possible benefits of medication for clients, as well as its limitations.

In this workshop we will:

  1. Review classes of psychotropic medications and common uses
  2. Understand what medication can and cannot do
  3. Explore how medication can be used with psychotherapy as part of an integrated treatment approach
  4. Learn approaches to discussing medication with clients
